How much does the PTCB exam cost?

The PTCB exam costs $129. That fee covers your application for Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification and one sitting of the PTCE.

Checked against the sources on October 15, 2026.

You pay when you apply through your PTCB account. Once PTCB approves your application, you get an email and a 90-day window to schedule and take the exam at a Pearson VUE test center.

PTCB says you apply and pay for every attempt, so a retake is another application. TODO: PTCB doesn’t name a separate retake fee. Confirm that a retake also costs $129 before stating it.

Who can apply

PTCB has two pathways:

Pathway What you need
Education A PTCB-recognized education or training program, or finishing one within 60 days of applying
Work experience At least 500 hours of work as a pharmacy technician, finished by the time you apply

You also need to live in the US or its territories and disclose any criminal or state board of pharmacy actions.
