How much does the NCLEX cost?

NCLEX registration costs $200 in the United States. NCSBN is raising it to $350 for registrations made on or after February 1, 2027, and the date you register sets the fee, not the date you test.

Checked against the sources on October 15, 2026.

The registration fee is the same for the NCLEX-RN and the NCLEX-PN. You pay it to Pearson VUE when you register, and you pay it again for each retake.

Fee Amount
Registration, US (registered before February 1, 2027) $200
Registration, US (registered on or after February 1, 2027) $350
International scheduling fee $150 extra
Quick Results (unofficial, optional) $7.95

If your test date is after February 1, 2027 but you register before then, you pay $200.

TODO: state boards of nursing charge their own licensure fees on top of NCLEX registration. Add a source for this line or remove it.

Results

Your official result comes from your nursing regulatory body within six weeks. If you’re testing for US licensure and your board takes part, you can pay $7.95 to see an unofficial result two business days after your exam.

More about the NCLEX

How many times can you take the NCLEX?

NCSBN’s retake policy allows up to 8 NCLEX attempts a year, with at least 45 days between attempts. Some nursing boards set a longer wait or fewer attempts, so check your state board’s rules.

How long is the NCLEX?

You get up to 5 hours to take the NCLEX, and that time includes the introductory screens and every break. Many people finish sooner, because the exam can stop after 85 questions.

What is the NCLEX passing score?

The NCLEX has no passing score as a percentage. You pass by performing at or above NCSBN’s passing standard, which the adaptive test measures as it goes and checks with three rules.
