How much does the NHA phlebotomy exam cost?

The NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) exam costs $134. That’s the price NHA lists for the CPT exam application, and each retake costs the full price again.

Checked against the sources on October 15, 2026.

You pay the $134 fee to NHA when you schedule. If you’re in a training program or work for a lab or clinic, ask whether it covers the fee before you pay it yourself.

What you need before you can register

  • A high school diploma or GED, or one you’ll earn within 18 months.
  • A phlebotomy training program finished in the last 5 years, or supervised phlebotomy work experience: 1 year within the last 3 years, or 2 years within the last 5.
  • Proof of at least 30 successful venipunctures and 10 capillary or finger sticks on live people. NHA requires this on both pathways.

Order of draw

Draw blood culture bottles first, then the citrate (light blue) tube, then serum tubes, then heparin, then EDTA, and the fluoride (gray) tube last. This order keeps the additive in one tube from contaminating the next.
